Devolution PS Risks Job After Assault Charge

Devolution Permanent Secretary Julius Korir has been ordered to appear in court on suspicion of assaulting a woman.

The prosecution requested that the PS be summoned to the Milimani Law Courts over the assault of one Everlyn Koech.

The incident is said to have occurred along Ndalat Road in Karen, Nairobi county on 17th September 2020.

Korir will appear in court on February 10 to enter a plea.

An Abusive Marriage

According to court documents, his wife had earlier reported another attack to Karen’s Hardy Police Station on November 20, 2018, with the number OB 40/20/11/2018.

Evelyn, who was pregnant at the time, had bruises in her tummy, forearm, and legs, according to a medical examination report dated November 20, 2018.

She also had thoracic and abdomen injuries, according to a P3 document signed by the police surgeon at the police headquarters.

Korir had petitioned the High Court to have his case dropped.

He had asked the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to stop detaining and prosecuting him in connection with the crime, claiming that it was unconstitutional and infringed on his constitutional rights.

Korir faces losing his job as a result of Chapter 6 of the Constitution and the Leadership and Integrity Act, which specifies that “any State officer who enters a plea in a criminal matter is automatically suspended.”
