Diani Gang Arrested in Dawn Raid Following String of Violent Robberies

Four suspected members of a notorious criminal gang believed to be behind a series of violent robberies in Diani were arrested in a coordinated multi-agency operation early Monday morning, June 30, 2025.

Acting on intelligence from members of the public, security officers launched a targeted sweep in the Magutu and Ukunda Scheme areas of Msambweni Sub-County, where the suspects were cornered and apprehended.

The group was found armed with pangas, knives, and a slasher—weapons authorities believe were used in recent attacks that have unsettled residents and business owners in the coastal town.

According to police sources, the suspects are currently in custody and are expected to be processed and arraigned in court once investigations are complete. The recovered weapons have been secured as evidence.

The National Police Service (NPS) praised the role of community members in the breakthrough, reaffirming its commitment to collaborative policing and public safety.

“We urge all Kenyans to continue working with security agencies by reporting suspicious activity. The safety of our communities depends on timely and accurate information,” the NPS said in a statement following the operation.

The arrests come amid growing concern over insecurity in the popular tourist destination, with local leaders calling for increased patrols and surveillance to protect both residents and the area’s tourism-driven economy.
