Disaster is looming at the Kitale- Lodwar road as a section of the road has been cut off due to the heavy rains being experienced in the country.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) has already closed off a section of the Kitale-Lodwar road.

In a notice the Authority directed motorists to use an alternative route as the rains have cut off a section of the road therefore making it impassable.

”The Kitale-Lodwar (A1) road has been  cut off at Ortum in West Pokot county. Motorists are advised to use the existing diversion as we desilt  and backfill the cut-off section.”The KeNHA statement reads.

Those operating on the road have also been warned against attempting to cross the sections that are cut off.

The heavy rains experienced across the country have led to floods and landslides, resulting in loss of lives and damaged property especially in West Pokot where 53 people were killed and thousands left homeless.

Bridges across the country have also been cut off by the heavy rains.
