Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has cautioned job seekers against engaging in bribery in order to secure employment in the County Government.
Addressing healthcare professionals during a policy sensitisation forum at her office, the Governor advised all job seekers to pursue the established channels of job application to avoid falling prey to conmen.
The high unemployment rate among qualified job seekers is pushing many people around the country into the dark rooms of corruption where they end up losing their money and the promised jobs.
The governor said lots of unsuspecting job seekers are being conned by unscrupulous individuals who are out for their own selfish gains. Through the recently launched policies and guidelines, Machakos County has adopted a transparent hiring process that will safeguard job seekers from exploitation by swindlers.
“Please follow the established channels because if you lose your money through bribery, you won’t have anyone to blame,” emphasized governor Wavinya.
“Truth be told when governor Wavinya took office in 2022, we absolutely had no structures in place for the public service and we are not afraid to say it because it is the truth,” said Machakos County Secretary Dr. Muya Ndambuki.
Recently, Governor Ndeti launched 10 different policies that are aimed at shaping the work culture, efficiency, conflict resolution, productivity and fairness among many other things.
Public Board Chairperson Mr. Albanus Mutisya said that when they came in came in they were so many glaring gaps in the public service establishment because there were no documents and schemes of service to guide their operations but now everything is on the right trajectory.
As the County government embarks on this new chapter, Governor Wavinya has declared that it is not going to be business as usual. She cautioned politicians from inciting the public against health workers.
In the recent past, two health professionals were assaulted by members of the public as a result of political incitement. The law is very clear and there are laid down procedures on how to handle all forms of misunderstandings.
Again, Governor Wavinya has said that she is ready to take hard steps to correct historical injustices that were committed before she took office.
“I was very disappointed to discover of unprocedural promotions that were done shortly before I took office and people being given roles in areas they didn’t study for. Imagine a trained lawyer being assigned to supervise garbage collection yet they studied law and ECDE teachers serving as village managers… Through a scheduled job redesignation, we shall gradually place our professionals where they belong,” added the Governor.
Progressively the county government will also streamline the gender imbalance in the workforce. It has emerged that the Machakos County workforce is made up of 44 % men and 56% women.
In the health sector, the county government is keen on infrastructure development, human resource recruitment, capacity building, equipping and stocking of medicines. The health department has been lauded as one of the best performing departments.
Ndeti has expressed great confidence in her administration’s commitment to revolutionize the healthcare system for the current and future generations.
The scheduled commissioning of ten new Level 4 facilities and the construction of the upcoming Muindi Mbingu Level 6 speciality hospital is bound to enhance service delivery across Machakos County.
