Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has revealed that doctors from the Indian hospital where the late Raila Odinga received treatment have arrived in Kenya to pay their final respects.
In a statement on Thursday, October 30, Nassir said the medical team from Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Hospital in Kerala accompanied Raila’s daughter, Rosemary Odinga, to Mombasa.
Nassir confirmed their visit while receiving Rosemary at the county offices, describing the doctors’ journey as an honor to the memory of a man who transcended national boundaries.
“This morning, I received Rosemary Odinga in Mombasa, daughter to our departed Party Leader, H.E. Raila Amolo Odinga, C.G.H, who was accompanied by doctors from Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Hospital in Kerala, India.

“They are in Kenya to pay their final respects to a man whose life and legacy transcended borders. The global outpouring of love for Baba is a reflection of his extraordinary journey; one defined by courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to justice and humanity,” he said.
The connection between the Odinga family and Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Hospital dates back several years.
The facility, located in the southern Indian state of Kerala, became widely known among Kenyans after Rosemary sought specialized Ayurvedic eye treatment there in 2019.
Her journey to Sreedhareeyam followed unsuccessful medical interventions in South Africa, Israel, and China after she suffered a partial loss of eyesight.
Following a month-long stay at the hospital, Rosemary was discharged and continued her medication at home.
In February 2022, Raila accompanied his daughter to India for follow-up treatment and expressed gratitude to the hospital’s specialists after Rosemary showed significant improvement in her vision.
Three years later, in October 2025, Raila returned to the same facility to undergo treatment for age-related ailments.
However, he collapsed during a morning walk within the Sreedhareeyam campus and was rushed to Devamatha Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
This comes a day after the late Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua’s wife, Margaret Nyokabi, visited Opoda farm to condole with Mama Ida Odinga following Raila’s death.
Nyokabi and her daughter, Mercy, were received at the Bondo home to pay their respects to the family of the former Prime Minister who passed away on October 15.
In a statement, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) acknowledged the visit, noting the historical significance of the gesture.
“Widow of the 1st Governor of Nyeri County, the late Hon. Nderitu Gachagua Mama Margaret Nyokabi, and her daughter Mercy were at Opoda farm in Bondo today to give pole to Mama Ida Odinga and family following the passing of Baba Raila Odinga on the 15th of this month,” the statement read.
