In Donholm, an accountant with a Nairobi-based paints firm was shot and killed during a struggle with armed suspected thugs who wanted to steal a carrier bag containing two disposable cups.
Nicodemus Munyasya, 38, was shot and killed as he walked home from a bank on Monday night.
He was carrying the cups in a bag which the killers mistook for money.
On reaching Savannah area a gang that was riding on a motorcycle accosted him and demanded that he hands over the bag.
Police believe the gang knew who Munyasya was and where he worked.
“He was in possession of a carrier bag containing two disposable tea cups which the robbers thought was money,” police said in a statement.
He had previously deposited a cheque at a local bank.
During the process, the victim resisted, resulting in a confrontation and shooting.
He was shot four times in the chest and leg.
Before moving the body to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital mortuary, police recovered a spent cartridge and bullet head, a mobile phone, and Sh100 from his pocket.
