Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has urged politicians to stop misleading Kenyans on the importance of the BBI document, saying they are doing a big disservice to their constitutional rights. – By Ramadhan Kambi.

Speaking in Kilifi town, Governor Kingi said despite the many goodies contained in the constitutional amendment in the document, selfish politicians he said had mooted a plot to go around the county, misleading the masses at the expense of the many benefits of the documents.

“Most of us are quick in condemning BBI, but as a Kenyan and a Kilifi resident you have to ask this question; what is the importance of this BBI document? We as politicians are most of the time selfish. We oppose because of our selfish interest but today I want the people of Kilifi to look at this document not at the influence of a politician but in their own thinking,” said Governor Kingi.

“For example, if the county resource allocation is increased from the current 15 per cent to 35 per cent, who will benefit. Is it the politician or the normal mwananchi in Kilifi? If you answer this question, then it will direct you whether you will support or oppose BBI,” said Governor Kingi.

He told off those opposing the BBI with their false information that it will bring in a huge wage bill because it will create more government positions, which he said is pure lie.

“The position of a prime minister is not added. That position will be taken by a Member of Parliament which means that the number will not be increased and the prime minister will only be paid a single salary and not a double salary,” he said.

Several MPs allied to DP Dr William Ruto at the Coast have been opposing the document saying that it is not an important factor at the moment.

“We want to look BBI as Coast people not because of Dr Ruto or Raila Odinga but because of our unity as Coast people,” the Governor added.
