Two passenger trains collided in western Slovakia on Sunday evening, leaving dozens of people injured but no fatalities, authorities said.
The crash occurred along a busy rail corridor between the capital Bratislava and the nearby town of Pezinok, about 20 kilometers (12 miles) northeast of the city.
According to police, one train ran into the back of another, causing a violent impact that left several passengers hurt.
Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok, who visited the scene, said during a televised briefing that “dozens were lightly injured,” while 11 people were taken to hospital for further treatment. He confirmed that no one was killed in the accident.
“According to preliminary information, there was no head-on collision of trains, nor was there a derailment,” police said in a statement posted on Facebook.
The Slovak news website Aktuality.sk cited a passenger who described the incident as a sudden and loud “bang,” followed by chaos inside the carriages. Emergency services responded quickly, and rail traffic in the area was temporarily halted.
Sunday’s collision is the second major rail accident in Slovakia within a month. On October 13, two trains collided in the country’s east, injuring 91 people.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the latest crash to determine its cause.
