A fire has destroyed buildings in Nairobi County’s Mathare neighborhood.
Videos shared on Wednesday, August 31, showed the fire spreading quickly in the densely populated area.
The majority of the affected houses were made of iron sheets, and residents could be heard screaming to alert one another to the incident.
After the incident caused a traffic jam on Juja Road, motorists were advised to take alternate routes.
At the time of publication, the county firefighters had yet to respond to the incident.
Access to the area is said to be one of the most difficult challenges for firefighters, as passageways are not well defined in the area.
