On Saturday, June 17, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua donated Ksh2.1 million to the heart-to-heart walk.
While kicking off the Karen Hospital-organized event, Gachagua noted that the walks were a noble endeavor aimed at raising funds for children suffering from heart diseases.
The DP stated that due to the high cost of heart surgeries, several families were struggling to raise funds to assist their children.
He also stated that the program was in line with the Kenya Kwanza manifesto of providing Kenyans with quality and affordable health care.
Gachagua also praised the organizers, led by Dr. Dan Gikonyo, noting that the program provided relief to many families who were unable to obtain medication.
In his speech, he stated that over 200,000 Kenyan children required heart-related treatment and surgery.
“It is unquestionably out of reach for families at the bottom of the social economic pyramid.” As others call for contributions and Harambee, this has sunk and trapped families in poverty.
“The President is implementing health-care reforms, particularly the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).” “We are adamant about ensuring success in quality healthcare,” he added.
At the event, he also participated in the walk and interacted with the children present before leaving for Meru County.
Gachagua was accompanied by Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o and the county’s Woman Representative Esther Passaris.
