DP Gachagua Meets Raila Odinga in Mombasa

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and ODM leader Raila Odinga met briefly Friday morning at Mombasa International Airport.

The two have been in Mombasa, where they attended separate events on Wednesday.

Mr Gachagua opened the Council of Governors (CoG) induction conference at the Pride Inn Paradise Hotel while Mr Odinga was in Mombasa for the inauguration of Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir.

This is the first time the duo is meeting since the elections. Details of their meeting are still scanty.

However, in a Facebook post, Gachagua revealed the news of their meeting after posting photos of them together.

“We have tremendous respect for our senior citizens. I was delighted this morning to have a tête-à-tête with our senior citizen former Prime Minister Rt Hon Raila Amolo Odinga in Mombasa,” he said.

The two met a few hours after Raila Odinga returned to the country from Zanzibar, where he had gone on vacation to recuperate.

Raila revealed to Azimio leaders in Mombasa that he traveled with his wife, children, and grandchildren to recover from the shocking loss of the 2022 General Election and the subsequent Supreme Court ruling that upheld President William Ruto’s victory.

“I have been out of the country; I went to recuperate in the spice Island of Zanzibar. I took my wife, children and grandchildren also to go heal after the shock they got as a family,” he said.

While leaving the country last week, Raila promised to consult his Azimio team on the way forward even as he maintained the outcome of the presidential contest remains ‘indeterminate’.
