DP Kindiki Defends Empowerment Drive, Highlights Grassroots Development in Nakuru

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reiterated the government’s commitment to grassroots economic empowerment, describing it as vital to uplifting livelihoods and accelerating national development. Speaking on Saturday in Molo town, Nakuru County, during the Molo Constituency Economic Empowerment event, DP Kindiki called on Kenyans to stay focused and ignore political distractions from critics.

“The economy is built from the bottom going up. That is why we are empowering those at the bottom of the economic pyramid,” Kindiki said, defending ongoing initiatives to support groups and Saccos across the country.

Outlining key development milestones, the Deputy President noted major progress in infrastructure, electricity access, healthcare, water, and agriculture. He emphasized the need to integrate these with direct support to ordinary citizens to maximize national economic gains.

Among key infrastructure projects, Kindiki announced that the long-awaited dualling of the Rironi-Mau Summit highway will commence soon, easing transport between Nairobi and western Kenya. “We will break the ground in a few weeks and ensure construction of the road, which will significantly boost the economies of Nakuru and other counties along the highway,” he said.

Highlighting support in agriculture, Kindiki assured that subsidized fertilizer, which was reduced from KSh7,000 to KSh2,500 per bag, will remain a priority, with ongoing efforts to make it even more accessible. He also cited progress in constructing modern markets in Molo and Elburgon, and the allocation of KSh257 million to expand last-mile electricity connection in the constituency.

On education, the Deputy President affirmed the government’s commitment to free primary and secondary education, noting that teacher recruitment had seen a sharp rise. “The previous governments employed less than 5,000 teachers annually. Since 2022, we have employed 76,000 teachers and another 24,000 will be hired by December,” he stated.

Kindiki further revealed that the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) allocation had risen from KSh36 billion to KSh41 billion, enhancing access to tertiary education. He also urged residents to register for the Social Health Authority (SHA) to benefit from government-subsidized healthcare.

Concluding his remarks, the DP signaled readiness for future political contests, asserting that the administration will campaign on a solid development record. “We will come with our scorecard, and we will challenge the opposition to show theirs,” he said.
