DP Kindiki: Women at the Heart of Agricultural and Enterprise Transformation

By Michelle Ndaga

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has lauded the role of women in driving grassroots agricultural productivity and rural enterprise growth, emphasizing that government programs are designed to empower them as central agents of change.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, Kindiki noted that women, who balance family caregiving with farming and entrepreneurship, stand to benefit significantly from the government’s agricultural transformation agenda.

He cited subsidized fertilizer, certified seeds, and the construction of modern fresh produce markets as key interventions supporting women-led enterprises.

The DP highlighted progress in Laikipia County, where women farmers and business owners are reaping the benefits of improved security, new markets in towns such as Nanyuki, Nyahururu, Ilipolei, and Sipili, as well as expanded access to subsidized farm inputs.

He further pointed to the Universal Health Insurance Scheme, which has so far registered 242,000 residents in Laikipia, and last-mile electrification projects targeting 4,000 households and businesses at a cost of KSh 720 million, as critical investments uplifting families and rural communities.

Kindiki, who met 1,500 grassroots women opinion leaders in Laikipia, urged them to continue guiding the youth, promoting positive values, and praying for peace and stability in the country.
