Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has defended allocations worth Ksh400 million requested by his office, claiming it had been neglected.
Ksh300 million had been requested to renovate the Harambee House Annex Office and the Karen and Mombasa residences.
Gachagua further sought Ksh100 million for the purchase of new vehicles, claiming the DP’s office has been using the same vehicles for 10 years.
“The Harambee House Annex Office and Mombasa residence have been neglected for the last 15 years affecting critical areas of habitability, safety and security,” a letter signed by the DP’s spokesperson Njeri Rugene read in part.
“For the last 10 years, the office of the Deputy President has relied heavily on old, and refurbished vehicles which are costly to maintain, compromising service delivery”.
The DP’s statement comes a day after a report went viral indicating that his office had requested Ksh2.6 billion in allocation – a huge chunk of which would be used on renovations.
