President William Ruto outlined the roles he has delegated to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Tuesday.
Speaking at State House Nairobi, the President stated that he has assigned the DP the roles necessary for him to carry out his duties as President.
“As I promised, my deputy is going to be a very busy person,” Ruto said in a statement at State House, Nairobi ahead of the unveiling members of his cabinet.
He stated that Gachagua will chair cabinet committees and oversee cabinet decision implementation across all ministries.
He also stated that the DP will coordinate intergovernmental relations between the national and local governments.
This includes presiding over the intergovernmental budget and economic councils.
Gachagua will also serve as a liaison between the constitutional commissions and the independent offices, including on policy matters.
The DP has also been tasked with coordinating planning and overseeing development partners-funded programs and projects.
Gachagua has also been tasked with overseeing public sector reforms and other duties as assigned by the President in the future.
The President will issue an executive order for printing to assign the DP very specific responsibilities that will assist him in carrying out his duties as President in accordance with the Constitution.
