The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has officially endorsed Deputy President William Ruto as the party’s presidential candidate ahead of the August elections.

Following a closed-door session on Tuesday, the delegates endorsed Ruto as the party’s presidential flagbearer.

The Deputy President was endorsed by about 5,000 delegates.

Governor Anne Waiguru, UDA Secretary-General Veronica Maina, chairman Johnstone Muthama, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, and Kandara MP Alice Wahome are among the leaders present for the coronation.

In his speech, DP Ruto declared war on his boss accusing him of betrayal and leading the country into a debt trap.

He took a jab at the BBI process which he says, cost the country lost fortunes.

“If we hadn’t lost 4 years, chasing a mirage [referring to BBI] and taken time to implement the Big 4 Plan, Kenya would be different from what we have now, we wouldn’t have unemployed youth.”

Other leaders who spoke at the event included Musalia Mudavadi, Johnstone Muthama, Alice Wahome and Sen. Moses Wetangula.
