DP Ruto’s Motorcade Stoned As Kenya Kwanza And Azimio Supporters Clash In Jacaranda Grounds

Police lob teargas at Jacaranda Grounds.

On Sunday, the Jacaranda grounds in Nairobi was engulfed in chaos, prompting police to fire teargas canisters at a raucous crowd of Kenya Kwanza and Azimio political supporters.

Earlier, police officers had sealed off the venue following disagreements between the two political camps over a double booking of the premise.

Police officers used teargas to disperse the crowd that had gathered at the venue, as some were seen pelting stones at the officers, while a campaign truck branded in UDA colors was parked nearby.

The youth also pelted buses that were ferrying DP Ruto’s supporters to the venue.

Teargas was seen smoldering as the clash continued, with scores of people in the audience fleeing the scene. Two people were injured including the Embakasi East UDA parliamentary candidate Francis Mureithi.

Following the chaotic scenes at the venue, one person has also been arrested.

The mayhem occurs against a backdrop of political undertones, as reports indicate that the venue was double booked because both Kenya Kwanza and Embakasi MP Babu Owino were scheduled to hold rallies on the same day.

Both DP Ruto’s team and Azimio, through Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, claimed they had legally obtained permission to hold their rallies on the aforementioned grounds.

The Kenya Kwanza team is expected to address the gathering from a top their vehicles as no dais has been erected.
