Haji Faults DCI For ‘Illegal’ Aisha Jumwa Case

DPP Haji blamed the former DCI, George Kinoti, for failing to cooperate with the prosecution agency in serving justice to Kenyans in an interview with KTN on Sunday.

Noordin Haji, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), has revealed the reasons for the withdrawal of a corruption case against Public Service and Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa.

According to Haji, the decision to withdraw the case from court was motivated by a lack of evidence, which he claimed was hampered by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

DPP Haji blamed the former DCI, George Kinoti, for failing to cooperate with the prosecution agency in serving justice to Kenyans in an interview with KTN on Sunday.

“We asked for evidence and it was never provided, and we wrote more than five reminders to the DCI and it was never provided,” Haji explained.

“DCI said they have evidence to directly link Aisha Jumwa to the crime and they provided certain documents that we felt if additional documents were provided then proof could be there to allow us to prosecute her but they were never provided and we had to review the case and withdraw it.”

DPP Haji chastised the DCI, accusing it of frivolously running the institution under former boss George Kinoti, claiming that the majority of cases did not meet the threshold for charging.

He also revealed that DCI failed to provide sufficient evidence in a number of cases, forcing him to withdraw the cases.
