Noordin Haji, Director of Public Prosecutions, has been elected to represent Africa and the Indian Ocean Region at the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP).
As a member of the Executive Committee, the DPP will be able to advance innovative strategies to combat Transnational Organized Crime (TOC) and improve regional and international cooperation and collaboration in transnational organized crime prosecution.
This was announced at the IAP 27th Annual Conference and General Meeting, which took place this week in Tbilisi, Georgia.
DPP Haji expressed gratitude for the appointment and promised to strengthen international cooperation in the prosecution of TOC.
“The election of the DPP and the awarding of the office is an acknowledgement of the important place that Kenya occupies in the international criminal justice arena,” he said.
Haji was also awarded a certificate of merit for hosting the fourth Africa and Indian Ocean region and the East Africa Association of Prosecutors (EAAP) conference in Mombasa earlier this year.
Haji was named Jurist of the Year by the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) of Kenya in December of last year.
The appointment of the DPP and the awarding of the office is recognition of Kenya’s significant role in international criminal justice.
He was recognized as a visionary leader who transformed the Directorate of Public Prosecutions into one of the most responsive and independent offices to the needs of Kenyans.
