The former Malindi member of parliament, Aisha Jumwa, has written to the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP Haji seeking to settle her murder charge out of Court.
DPP Haji informed the court through Senior Assistant Prosecutor Vivian Kambuga that Jumwa wished to pursue alternative dispute resolution because she is not the main suspect in the heinous murder case.
“There are ongoing negotiations with the victim’s family to settle the matter regarding the second suspect outside of court,” the prosecutor said.
Kambuga informed Mombasa High Court Judge Anne Onginjo of ongoing negotiations with the deceased’s family, Ngumbao Jolahad, which revealed that the family was now seeking compensation for their son’s death.
If DPP and the Court approves her request, she will testify against her bodyguard.
The public prosecutor quickly responded, informing the court that the Mombasa regional DPP office was unable to make the final decision due to bureaucratic reasons, but that the file would be forwarded to the head office in Nairobi for director Haji to make his final decision next week.
Jumwa, for his part, told the court through his lawyer that the move was initiated through official communication to the office of the DPP Mombasa, where he informed Justice Onginjo that Ngumbao’s immediate family members had also expressed interest in the new move to have the charge sheet reviewed to struck out Jumwa’s name.
Jumwa and her aide Geoffrey Okuto were charged with the murder of Ngumbao Jola on October 15,2021 during the Ganda Ward By-election after chaos erupted during a campaign rally.
