A man has been charged with sharing information that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s birthday was funded using money intended for people with disabilities.
Abdul Majid alias DR Amkeni pleaded not guilty before Mombasa Senior Resident Magistrate Rita Orora.
The court heard that on various dates between March 9, 2021, and January 20, 2023, at an unknown location, he published false information on YouTube claiming that Mombasa County Governor Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir misappropriated funds meant for people with disabilities to host Raila’s birthday party – an act that is likely to tarnish his reputation.
Abdul was also charged with four more counts of publishing false information against Mombasa County assembly speaker Aharubi Khatri and former Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho’s brother Abubakar Joho for allegedly illegally importing firearms from Afghanistan and Pakistan through the Mombasa port and selling them to Alshabab militants in Somalia.
