Cancer is the leading cause of death in the North Rift region, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) CEO Dr. Wilson Aruasa has said.
Speaking during the commemoration of World Cancer Day in Eldoret town, Dr. Arwasa said in MTRH, lives are lost every day due to late presentation, saying this morning alone three people died of cancer in the facility.
Dr. Aruasa said 70% of 10 million deaths of cancer globally every year occur in the African region, that is in middle-income countries.
He said 16,000 cases of cancer are attended to at MTRH yearly, 45 cases in a day and 1,500 to 2000 cases every month, saying the burden is worrying.
