Raid Saga: DCI Summon Former CS Matiang’i

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i in connection with an alleged police raid

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i in connection with an alleged police raid on his home two weeks ago.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police Michael Sang, the former Interior Minister may have disseminated incorrect information about the alleged raid, necessitating his questioning.

Sang directed the ex-CS to appear at the DCI offices on Friday at 9:30 a.m., according to a notice to compel presence written to Matiang’i.

“I Detective Michael K. Sang, CFE, a Senior Superintendent of police attached to Directorate of Criminal Investigations Headquarters, Serious Crime Unit, is investigating allegations of Publication of False Information contrary to section 23 of the computer Misuse and Cyber Crimes Act 2018 amongst other offences in regard to alleged invasion and raid of your residence (the former Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Interior and National Co-ordination, Dr. Fred Matiangi) on the 8th – 9th day of February, 2023 allegedly by a “battalion” and/or “garrison” of police officers,” said the officer.

Detective Sang further stated that Matiang’i’s inability to appear at the DCI headquarters is an offence punishable by prosecution.

This comes after the Nairobi High Court extended orders prohibiting the police from harassing or arresting Matiang’i.

On Thursday, the case was heard before Judge Justus Bwonwong’a, who extended the anticipatory bail granted by Justice Kanyi Kimondo until February 9, 2023.
