Malombe Sworn-in After Elbowing Out Ngilu


Kitui County Governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe and his Deputy Augustine Wambua Kanani have officially assumed office after they were sworn in on Thursday at Ithookwe show grounds in Kitui County.


Malombe was sworn in by Machakos High Court presiding Justice George Odunga, who also officiated the symbolic handover of the instruments of power, which included the county flag, the county coat of arms, the constitution, and the county public seal.
Justice Odunga also oversaw the signing of leadership and integrity code as directed by the EACC.
Speaking at the ceremony, Malombe called on the elected leaders in Kitui County to collectively support his administration to deliver on the mandates and manifestos to the locals effectively.
Malombe also said that he will construct one mega dam in each sub county, two large dams in each ward, one major dam in each village and boreholes in each modern village.
He will also ensure there is a referral hospital in Kitui and Mwingi, a level four hospital in each sub county, a level three hospital in each ward, a level two hospital in each village to ensure that patients access medical centers easily.
“I will also implement sustainable charcoal management policy because we cannot do away with charcoal burning what we will do is come up with sustainable charcoal and sand harvesting measures,” he added.
Malombe also promised the county employees with outstanding salaries and arrears will be fully paid in the next 100 days and going forward, he will ensure that staff salaries are paid not less than 30th of each month as it was in his initial 2013-2017 tenure in office.
He also stated that he will re- introduce public participation as well as completing pending projects.
He also pledged to initiate cash for work program that will include all age groups.
Malombe, who was elected on Wiper ticket, succeeds Charity Kaluki Ngilu who stepped down to support Raila’s presidential bid.
