Ugandan Opposition Figure Arrested

Dr. Kizza Besigye, a leading Ugandan opposition figure, was arrested on Tuesday while attempting to organise a protest against the high cost of living in the capital, Kampala.


The 66-year-old campaigned four times for president against Yoweri Museveni.


He was Mr Museveni’s personal doctor and has been arrested numerous times.

According to the Daily Monitor news website, Dr. Besigye arrived to Tuesday’s protest with megaphones mounted on his car, halting activity in the locality.

Dr. Besigye is being held by Ugandan police on suspicion of inciting violence.
He has not yet commented.
