Dr. Patrick Amoth Lands WHO Executive Job

Dr Patrick Amoth, Acting Director General of the Ministry of Health, has been elected to chair the World Health Organization Executive Board for 2022.

Kenya was elected to the Executive Board in 2019 and had previously been represented by Dr. Masasabi John until January 2020, when Dr. Amoth was appointed as the substantive Member.

Dr. Cleopa Mailu, Kenya’s Ambassador in Geneva, serves as the alternative member.

The Board elects its Chairman from among its members & its functions are; to give effect to the decisions & policies of the World Health Assembly; to act as the executive organ of the World Health Assembly; to perform any other functions entrusted to it by the World Health Assembly.

The Executive Board is made up of thirty-four people. The World Health Assembly elects the Members eligible to select a person to serve on the Board, taking into consideration an equal geographical distribution.

His appointment does not come as a surprise, as his role in the COVID-19 management has recieved acclaim from all parts of the world.
