Suspect Leads Cops To Grave Of Missing Ugandan Doctor

Simiyu later sent a distress call to his relatives saying his life was in danger. He asked for Sh4 million to save his life.

Police in Kabras, Kakamega county, are guarding a shallow grave thought to be the burial site of a missing Ugandan doctor.

Simiyu later sent a distress call to his relatives saying his life was in danger. He asked for Sh4 million to save his life.

The relatives say it was the last time he communicated with them.

On February 10, police were taken to the Machemo area by a suspect, where they discovered clotted blood.

Blood smears led police to a riverbank where a shallow grave had been excavated.

Police believe Dr Simiyu was murdered and buried there after his kidnappers failed to get the Sh4 million they demanded.

From Saturday to Monday, a police crew guarded the site as they sought a court warrant to excavate and exhume the remains.

According to Kakamega North subcounty police chief Paul Mwendwa, a suspect led them to the scene.

According to early inquiries, the doctor flew to Kenya a week ago in the company of a man claiming to be a pastor.

The doctor apparently took public transportation to Kenya and informed his family he was going to Kakamega.

Simiyu later made a distress call to his family, warning them that his life was in danger. He requested Sh4 million in order to save his life.

According to his relatives, that was the last time he communicated with them.

Police said a suspect who had been using the doctor’s mobile phone number to send extortion text messages to relatives was arrested.
