Drama: Woman Storms Church To Stop Husband’s Wedding

In a shocking turn of events at a church in Ngurubani, Mwea, Kirinyaga County, a woman named Rose Wawira Chomba disrupted the wedding ceremony of her estranged husband, Chomba Njoka Mutambu, who was set to marry Pastor Regina, a fellow clergyman at Vision Beyond Living Gospel Church.

Accompanied by her five children, Wawira stormed the church, asserting her position as the legal wife of Chomba, claiming their marriage was solemnized in June 2013 according to canonical rules at the Kerugoya parish.

“We went to church to solemnize our marriage, so I wonder how he can wed another wife without our knowledge,” she stated passionately.

The scene quickly escalated as Wawira and her children attempted to halt the proceedings, leading to confrontations with security personnel. Peter Macharia Kamau, a church official, expressed confusion regarding the timing of the disruptions, suggesting that objections could have been raised earlier during the wedding preparations.

Wawira publicly accused her husband of abandoning the family and living with Regina, alleging that he had plans to sell their land once remarried.

“My mother has been struggling to take us to school. We suspect he wants to marry another woman so they can sell our land and leave us with nothing,” said Lucy Wakuthii, one of Chomba’s children, highlighting the family’s fears.

The situation drew the attention of local authorities, prompting intervention by Wanguru police officers, led by Mwea East OCPD Patrick Nyaanga. Officers were called to the scene after onlookers reported an escalating fight in the church.

Witnesses expressed their shock at the unfolding drama, calling it a profound shame.

The wedding proceeded despite the intervention, leaving many questions unanswered about the future of the Chomba family.
