Driver Locks Himself in Overloaded Truck on Narok–Sekenani Road

A truck driver transporting murram for Wak Construction was intercepted on Friday evening along the Narok–Sekenani Road after being found in violation of road weight limits.

According to the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), the Suswa mobile weighbridge team flagged down the three-axle tipper truck and found it carrying a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 30,850 kilograms, an excess of 2,850 kilograms beyond the permitted tolerance.

The driver was issued with a Prohibition Order, directing that the vehicle be removed from the road until compliance was achieved, and a Notice to Attend Court.

However, he reportedly defied police instructions to drive to Narok Police Station, locking himself inside the vehicle in protest.

Officers on duty were forced to remove both the front and rear registration plates before booking the incident at the Narok Police Station. The vehicle was subsequently tagged in KeNHA’s Weighbridge Management System (KENLOAD V2).

KeNHA has reiterated its warning to transporters against overloading, stressing that surveillance operations, including night patrols, are ongoing to ensure compliance and safeguard road infrastructure from damage caused by overweight vehicles.
