DUALE: No More KMTC Colleges, 90 Is Enough

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has dismissed calls for additional branches of the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), insisting that the current 90 campuses are sufficient to meet national training needs.

Speaking on Wednesday at the institution’s headquarters in Nairobi, where he unveiled eight newly acquired vehicles, Duale warned that unchecked expansion would strain resources and compromise quality.

He highlighted the Garissa campus, which serves several constituencies, as proof that existing facilities can adequately cater for demand.

“As a Ministry and as a country, we must embrace economies of scale,” the CS said, adding that putting up new infrastructure without matching investment in operations would not make campuses fully functional.

Duale assured that KMTC maintains compliance with regulatory requirements, including staff-to-student ratios, while delivering quality healthcare training.

Health Director-General Dr. Patrick Amoth echoed the call, urging the college to focus on integrating technology, expanding simulation labs and maintaining international standards.

With more than 87,000 students, KMTC remains the country’s largest mid-level training institution, producing over 20,000 graduates annually for deployment across Kenya and abroad.
