Duale — Uhuru, Ruto showdown is ‘bad for the country’

Former Majority Leader in the National Assembly Aden Duale has called for a handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto, saying their hostile relationship is bad for the country. – By Gerald Gekara.

“I want to plead with President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto to sit down as gentlemen and sort out your differences once and for all for the sake of Kenya and the future of our great country. Above all, you are friends,” Duale said.

While speaking at a tour of his Garissa constituency, Duale said when the two leaders decided to collapse their parties (URP and TNA) to form Jubilee in 2013, both were facing criminal charges in The Hague.

“By the grace of God we overcome the case and more than 8 million Kenyans voted for us enabling us to form government. What I have seen is that we in Jubilee have failed to thank God for all these. We have become stubborn and brought instability in the country.” He added.

The two have been at it lately with President Uhuru daring his deputy to quit following constant criticism over his priority on passing the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

However, Ruto denied the allegations saying he has always been behind Uhuru and never spoke against him.

“The President and I came together to drive the country forward. To offer politics based on peace and mutual respect among all communities. I still stand by our vision and agreement and I absolutely respect the President.” Ruto said.
