EACC Urges Governors To Uphold Integrity Code

According to the anti-corruption commission, upholding the code could enable Governors to overcome the current integrity challenges in the County governments.

The EACC witnessed the signing of integrity codes by Mombasa and Kakamega Governors during their swearing-in ceremonies.

The codes were administered by High Court judges bringing to 47 the number of Governors who have taken the anti-graft oath.

According to the anti-corruption commission, upholding the code could enable Governors to overcome the current integrity challenges in the County governments.

With devolution gaining its momentum in 2013 after the promulgation of the 2010 constitution, embezzlement of public funds, payment for services not rendered, conflict of interest, abuse of office, inflated costs of projects and ghost workers have been the main challenges in county governments leading to loss of billions of tax payers’ money.

As a result, EACC chose to begin the program of holding all public elected leaders accountable in their respective offices by signing the integrity code before assuming offices.
