EACC Appeals to recover Kenya Airways Grabbed Land

The seized land is public land that was set aside for use by Moi International Airport, Mombasa, which is managed by Kenya Airports Authority.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) filed a lawsuit in court on Tuesday seeking to reclaim ten parcels of public land worth Ksh 2.4 billion that were taken from Moi International Airport in Mombasa and belong to the Kenya Airport Authority (KAA).

Furthermore, the Commission is attempting to recoup Ksh 9.8 million in illegal compensation for some of the parcels of land compulsorily acquired by the National Land Commission in Mombasa for the construction of the SGR and the Dongo – Kundu Kipevu Road Project.

According to EACC, NLC paid compensation to the East African Gas Company Limited, the current registered owner of all parcels of Airport land, whose Directors include Joshua Chelelgo Kulei, Caroline Jebet Kigen, and Kipkurui Kimosop.

The seized land is public land that was set aside for use by Moi International Airport, Mombasa, which is managed by Kenya Airports Authority.

It contains a portion of the Moi International Airport runway, a United Nations support base, and a Kenyan Military Base and Watchtower.

EACC has sued the following individuals in Mombasa Environment and Land Court:

Former Kenya Airports Authority Managing Director Peter Kipyegon Lagat

East African Gas Company Limited – A private company based in Mombasa that is currently registered as the owner of all seized parcels of land.

Frankway Link Agencies- an unregistered entity used to facilitate some of the transactions.

Jeewi Ltd – A limited liability company that was formed to facilitate some of the transactions.

Wilson Gacanja- Former Land Commissioner

Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Land Commission, Tom Aziz Chavangi

Salome Munubi- Former National Land Commission Director of Valuation
