The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a former IEBC employee for allegedly forging an academic certificate in a bid to secure a promotion. The suspect is accused of presenting a fake Bachelor of Arts degree from Moi University to the electoral body.
According to the EACC, investigations confirmed the document was falsified and that the suspect knowingly presented it as genuine. After the Commission completed its probe, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) approved criminal charges.
The suspect was arraigned at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court on Thursday, November 20, where he pleaded not guilty to multiple counts, including forgery, uttering a false document, and deceiving a principal. He was released on a cash bail of Ksh 200,000.
In a statement, the EACC reiterated its warning against academic fraud and reaffirmed its commitment to rooting out corruption within public institutions. This arrest is part of a broader crackdown on officials using forged credentials to gain employment or promotions.
Just two weeks ago, the EACC apprehended a Nairobi water official for allegedly using a fake secondary school certificate to secure a job and fraudulently acquire Ksh 6.2 million in public funds.
