EACC Arrests Land Registrar For Allegedly Demanding Ksh.2.5M Bribe

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) arrested a Land Registrar at the Ngong Land Registry for allegedly demanding a bribe of Ksh.2.5 million from a member of the public in order to process their title deed.

According to the commission’s statement, Charles Mwendwa Mutua was arrested on Monday by police from Kilimani police station while receiving Ksh.900,000 as a bargain from the aforementioned bribe.

Mutua’s arrest follows a series of investigations launched in response to a complaint filed with the commission alleging that Mutua, in collaboration with his boss Caroline Simuli Kituyi, is notorious for demanding large bribes in order for title deeds to be processed.

“On 7th December 2022, the Commission received a report from a member of the public who alleged that both Caroline Simuli Kituyi and Charles Mwendwa Mutua based at Ngong Land Registry were demanding a bribe from him in order to process the Title Deeds of his land,” wrote EACC adding that both were to share the amount.

Confirming the allegations, the EACC determined that the accusations were true, prompting detectives to make the arrest.

Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched to apprehend Kituyi, who is believed to have escaped capture.

She has been ordered to appear at the Integrity Centre Police Station.

Mutua is currently being held at the Kilimani Police Station pending further investigation.
