EACC Arrests Nairobi County Officer Impersonator Demanding Bribe for Job Placement

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a man identified as William Otieno Okoth, who allegedly posed as the Personal Assistant to the County Secretary of Nairobi City County.

Okoth is accused of demanding a bribe of Ksh 100,000 from a complainant, claiming he could secure a job for the complainant’s wife as a cleaner within the County Government.

Okoth misled the complainant into believing he held significant influence over county employment matters and could expedite the issuance of an employment letter in exchange for the bribe, which he referred to as “tea.”

This fraudulent scheme was revealed when the complainant reported the incident to the EACC, prompting the Commission to take immediate action.

An operation was launched, resulting in Okoth’s arrest outside Tratoria Restaurant in Nairobi’s Central Business District after he received the money.

Following his arrest, Okoth was taken to the EACC Integrity Centre Police Station for processing and is currently detained at Kilimani Police Station, where he awaits further interviews and the recording of statements.
