Six people, including two top Homa Bay County Assembly officers, have been arrested over an alleged Ksh.85 million corruption.

Twalib Mbarak, CEO of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, said in a statement on Monday that those arrested are directors or are closely tied to Nyangume Enterprises and Damila Enterprises.

Former Homa Bay County Assembly Clerk Bob Kephas Otieno’s wife owns Nyangume Enterprises, and former Equity Bank Homa Bay branch manager David Obonyo Mireri owns Damila Enterprises.

Nyangume and Damila took home Ksh.26,272,460 and Ksh.46,542,645, respectively, despite not delivering any goods or services to the county.

Despite not being hired by the county, Lilian Achieng Aloo, the wife of the former bank branch manager, earned Ksh.12,363,706.5 in salary.

Evelyne Awino Ogutu, who is associated to Nyangume Enterprise, is also a suspect.

Caroline Sang, the Chief Finance Officer, and Maurice Amek, the Senior Accounts Controller, each received 3.95 million and 5 million shillings in benefits from Damila Enterprises.

The EACC said it plans to charge suspects with various offenses such as illegally obtaining public property, dealing with suspect property, theft, and money laundering.
