EACC Freezes Ksh. 216Million KETRACO Employee’s Wealth

The High Court has given EACC orders to freeze assets worth Sh216.3 million belonging to a manager at Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited.

Lady Justice Esther Maina said in her judgement that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission had established overwhelming evidence.

The commission moved to court following an inquiry into charges of unexplained riches, unethical behaviour, bribery, and conflict of interest against a supply manager.

EACC investigations revealed that the officer reasonably participated in corruption between January 2010 and March 2021.

He is accused of acquiring assets totalling Sh278 million against his known total lawful income of Sh40.2 million for the same period.

According to EACC, investigations revealed that at the time of the acquisition of these properties, the suspect received payments from persons and institutions that had obtained bids with his firm (KETRACO).

The commission sent a notice to the manager to explain the disparity between his assets and his known lawful source(s) of income.

However, he could not explain the source of his assets totaling Kes. 216,374,181.94.
