EACC Investigates Kakamega ‘Cleaner’ Over Ksh. 615 Million in Suspicious Wealth

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has launched an investigation into John Koveti Lumula, the head of cleaning services at the Kakamega County Government, for allegedly amassing Ksh. 615 million in unexplained wealth believed to be linked to the theft of public funds.

EACC spokesperson Eric Ngumbi revealed that Lumula was arrested this week and taken to the commission’s Bungoma regional offices, where he provided a statement regarding the allegations.

The investigation began after the agency received complaints about Lumula’s sudden accumulation of wealth, which is suspected to have been obtained through kickbacks during his tenure in the procurement department before his reassignment.

According to EACC, Lumula’s substantial assets include West Bridge Elite School in Eregi, valued at Ksh. 200 million, along with several hotels, commercial properties, and an array of high-end vehicles.

The investigation underscores the ongoing efforts by EACC to combat corruption within public sectors and hold accountable those accused of misappropriating public resources.
