EACC Probes ksh 196 Million Theft In Isiolo County

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has launched an investigation into a suspected theft of public funds totaling Ksh.196, 016,910 by 5 county workers in Isiolo county government.

The five, who allegedly worked in the Finance and Economic Planning Department, were allegedly used as conduits for the money, which was then distributed to other county officials.

According to an EACC statement issued on Wednesday, the money was distributed in five installments between 2019 and 2022.

As a result, the commission demands that relevant payment vouchers and all necessary documents be made available for investigation, failing which appropriate action will be taken.
“The Commission has written to the County Government, through the County Secretary, to avail various documents required for the investigation, including the relevant payment vouchers,” reads the statement in part.
“Failure to submit required documents for corruption investigations is a violation of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, 2003.”

The investigation is expected to recover lost public funds and bring those found responsible to justice.
