The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Wednesday, September 17, conducted raids targeting senior officials of the Garissa County Government over alleged procurement irregularities.
In a statement, EACC said the operation targeted the Head of County Treasury, Abdi Ali Nuriye and Mohamed Daud Korow, the Chief Finance Officer.
Residences and offices of Mohamed Abdi Hassan, Director of Supply Chain Management, and Abdiwahab Omar Guye, the Former Director of Procurement, were also raided.
“On Wednesday, 17th September 2025, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) executed search warrants at the residences and offices of four Garissa County officials in connection with investigations into irregular award of contracts worth Ksh1.2 billion.
“This operation forms part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of procurement irregularities in the award of contracts worth Ksh1.2 billion at the County Government of Garissa,” the commission said.
According to the EACC, the projects under scrutiny include the tender for the construction of a new terminal wing at Garissa Airstrip and the construction of a perimeter wall and pavilion at Garissa Primary School.
Other matters under investigations include the provision of medical insurance, catering services for county officials, and payments linked to ghost workers allegedly on the county payroll.
In its statement, the EACC confirmed that the raids yielded crucial materials that will aid in investigations.
“Today’s operation has resulted in the recovery of critical evidentiary material to support ongoing investigations. Upon conclusion of the investigation, the findings will guide the appropriate course of action, which may include the prosecution of any individuals found culpable, the forfeiture of unexplained assets, and the confiscation of proceeds linked to corruption,” the statement added.
The raid comes a month after EACC summoned Garissa Governor Nathif Jama Adam over allegations of embezzlement of public funds in the county.
In a letter dated August 19, 2025, EACC also said the Garissa Governor is being investigated over irregular recruitment of employees in the county between October 2022 and June 2024.
EACC asked the ODM Governor to present himself before the commission’s headquarters at the Integrity Center, Nairobi, on August 25, 2025, at 10:00 AM.
“The Commission is investigating allegations of embezzlement of public funds and irregular recruitment of employees by Garissa County Government from October 2022 to June 2024.
“To facilitate the investigation, kindly avail yourself for an interview and statement recording at our Nairobi Integrity Centre offices located at Jakaya Kikwete/Valley road Junction on 25th August, 2025 at 10.00 AM,” read part of the statement.
