EACC Sets Auction Date for Forfeited Obado’s Assets

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has announced that a public auction of properties worth Ksh425.6 million linked to former Migori County Governor Okoth Obado will take place from October 9th to 17th, 2025.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 24, EACC revealed detailed auction schedules for multiple high-value properties spread across Nairobi, Migori, and Kisumu counties that were forfeited following a corruption case against the former governor and his associates.

The properties scheduled for auction include the Sunshine Centre commercial block in Migori, a block of apartments under construction in Lowe Estate, Kisumu, and a two-story residential block comprising 40 units located in Suna East, Migori.

The auction will also feature several residential properties in Nairobi’s upmarket areas, including two apartments in Greenspan, a maisonette in Loresho, another maisonette in Greenspan, and an apartment in Riara. Additionally, a residential property in Kamagambo will be included in the sale.

These properties were forfeited as part of a plea bargain agreement between Obado, his co-accused, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in a corruption case involving the misappropriation of Ksh.73.4 million from Migori County Government funds between 2013 and 2017.

When they were first charged in 2021, the former governor and 17 co-accused individuals faced 25 charges, including conspiracy to commit economic crimes, conflict of interest, money laundering, and unlawful acquisition of public property.

Under the negotiated settlement, the accused parties agreed to surrender assets valued at more than three times the contested amount, totaling approximately Ksh235 million. The forfeited assets include various residential and commercial properties as well as vehicles.

EACC has contracted three professional auctioneering firms to conduct the sales: Galaxy Auctioneers, Keyslan Auctioneers, and Astorion Auctioneers. The commission obtained court orders granting it powers of sale for these properties.
