EACC To Freeze Ksh. 952 Million Wealth Linked To KERRA Manager

Interim orders have been obtained by the EACC to freeze Sh952 million in assets linked to a Kerra Coast regional manager.

The anti-graft agency announced in a press conference that it had filed a forfeiture claim against Eng Benson Muteti Masila, the Coast regional manager of Kenya Rural Roads Authority, and six others.

The court, through Justice James Wakiaga, granted interim orders on July 30, 2021, prohibiting any dealings in the assets until the interlocutory application is heard and decided, according to the statement.

The court also ordered an injunction prohibiting the respondents, their agents, servants, and/or any other individuals from selling, transferring, charging, or charging again, leasing, developing or developing any property.

According to the EACC, it is seeking to confiscate unaccounted for assets worth Sh952,363,824.99 that were acquired between February 2009 and December 2018.

Masila’s assets are valued at Sh597.4 million, and his wife Zipporah Mwongeli Muteti’s assets are valued at Sh80.7 million.

Other assets sought are from the following Masila-affiliated businesses:

Mumbe Junior Academy Limited (Sh174.8 million); Mumbe Boys High School Limited (Sh2,06 million); Mumbe Girls High School Limited (Sh17.8 million); Mumbe Hardware and Suppliers Limited (Sh17.8 million); Mumbe Junior Academy Limited (Sh174.8 million); Mumbe Junior Academy Limited (Sh174.8 million).

The unexplained riches, according to the anti-graft agency, include Sh567.6 million in bank and M-Pesa deposits, as well as Sh347 million in landed properties.
