The Burundi National Defence Forces troops deployed within the Masisi territory under the East African Community Regional Force (EACRF) on Saturday, 8th April 2023 successfully recovered stolen livestock.
The locals alerted the EACRF troops about suspected members of local armed groups who struck on Thursday night within Nyamitaba locality and made away with the livestock prompting the forces to pursue the thieves in the direction of Muheto and Masisi centre.
In a coordinated operation supported by the local administration and the population, the troops recovered 20 cows and 15 sheep and handed them to their owners after positive verification.
The Burundian Contingent Commander Lieutenant Colonel Zino Dismas urged the population of Nyamitaba and its environment to remain calm, but vigilant.
He appreciated the collective effort of the local administration and the population and reminded them that EACRF will continue enhancing the Protection of Civilians, opening up the Main Supply Routes for the free flow of people and goods and aiding Humanitarian assistance in the Joint Operation Area for socioeconomic development.
