Eastern Bypass Expansion Sets Off

The government has begun the construction of a dual carriageway on the Eastern Bypass, which connects Mombasa Road with the Thika Superhighway.

The project, according to the ministry of transport, will cost Sh12.5 billion.

The China Communication Construction Company Limited will expand the 28-kilometer route.

Traffic has been reported in busy areas like City Cabanas, Pipeline, Utawala, and Ruiru, causing major delays and inconvenience to residents.

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), on the other hand, did not say when the construction will be completed.

Traders say the move will promote trade and investments in satellite towns such as Utawala, Ruai, and Ruiru.

Upon the commissioning of the key road, land prices shot up, leading to the rise of satellite towns stretching along the 28km road.

CCCC has been contracted on various key infrastructure projects within the country.
