Had we heeded the call to observe Covid 19 protocols: wash your hands. Sanitise. Stay at home. More than 13,000 Kenyans would not be bound by the Corona scourge. As usual, we ignored CS Kagwe Mutahi and his technocrats.
Worse still, our elected leaders have continued to disregard these measures. With abandon and impunity that borders on stupidity and primitivity. Sooner than later, Kenyans are now staring at a mega lockdown that will confine them to their home counties.
What then is the way forward? First and foremost, there is no logic in gazetting wearing masks if there is no intension of implementing the directive.
The same goes for curfew enforcement. Why should Senators, MPs, and the monied be exempted from the establish Covid 19 protocols? Why should they hold mammoth rallies and club nights while the rest sacrifice the thirst for free movement and alcohol?
So let’s now bite the bullet.
Either we are interested in containing the Covid-19 curve, or we want to adopt a ‘business as a usual’ attitude best known to us. If the Covid 19 pandemic overruns the health system, nobody should blame the Government.
As the Health CS Kagwe continuously sings to us, allude to the fact that the virus is here to stay and anybody can get. “You can get it. I can get it.”
Our collective stupidy will have done us in. Shame on those refusing to wear masks, refusing to maintain a social distance, and simply ignore the sanitizer.
