Education stakeholders have started student leadership mentorship to help instil discipline among students.
At least 650 students under the Wings to Fly and Elimu scholarships programme drawn from Kilifi Tana River and Lamu Counties congregated at St. Thomas Girls High School in Kilifi town, Kilifi County where they were taken through life skills that stakeholders claim will shape their future.
Mrs Saida Famau said that the conference will continue throughout the country and it is geared towards shaping young people and motivating them to work hard in school.
“These are students who are beneficiaries of scholarships from three counties and we have 650 students at the conference where they are being taught various life skills and encouragement,” she said.
She also lamented that many candidates who scored 300 marks and above in their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) were still at home after failing to secure scholarships and called on stakeholders and the government to ensure that no student remained at home despite their family’s financial status.
Mrs Veronica Kalingu, the Kilifi Director of Education, encouraged students to concentrate in their studies so that they can achieve their potential in life.
“The theme of the programme is power of purpose and we are encouraging them that they can achieve their potential through hard work,” she said.
