Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Dr Julius Bitok, has called for the immediate arrest and interdiction of Alliance Girls High School teacher Mr Peter Ayiro, following allegations of sexual grooming and inappropriate relationships with students.
Speaking at a thanksgiving ceremony in Bomet County, Dr Bitok said the government would not tolerate any form of sexual misconduct in schools.
“That teacher is going to be punished. We have talked to TSC and other stakeholders to ensure that he is arrested,” the PS stated, adding that the Ministry of Education had formally engaged the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to begin interdiction procedures.
The allegations came to light through a four-year investigation by Africa Uncensored, titled The Teacher and the System – The Story Behind the Story. The exposé documents testimonies and patterns of behaviour suggesting calculated grooming tactics, including emotional manipulation and inappropriate contact.
Mr Ayiro, a long-serving teacher and Christian Union patron at the school, is said to have used his spiritual influence to target vulnerable, high-performing students. Former students have since come forward online, expressing both outrage and disbelief, with some confirming the claims.
Joan Nyambura Thuo, an alumna and career coach, said she was “shocked and devastated” by the revelations, describing Ayiro as a once-respected mentor. “Disappointment, disgust, anger, shock, and confusion,” she wrote on social media.
On Thursday, a group of women protested outside Alliance Girls demanding Ayiro’s arrest. He is reportedly in hiding.
FIDA-Kenya has called for a full investigation, while the TSC faces renewed pressure to address systemic failures in handling teacher misconduct. The case has reignited debate over student safety and abuse of power in Kenya’s elite schools.
