Egypt and China Call for Ceasefire, Urge Global Backing for Arab-Led Gaza Reconstruction Plan

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Chinese Premier Li Qiang have jointly called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the rapid deployment of humanitarian aid, as they met in Cairo on Thursday in a high-level diplomatic engagement aimed at intensifying global focus on the Palestinian crisis.

The meeting, also attended by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, saw both sides underscore the urgency of a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue, reaffirming support for a two-state solution and condemning the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.

According to a statement from Egypt’s presidency, the leaders placed strong emphasis on international mobilisation to support an Arab-initiated reconstruction plan for Gaza, which was adopted during an extraordinary Arab Summit in Cairo on March 4.

At the heart of the plan is the formation of a “Gaza Management Committee” — a temporary transitional authority that would govern Gaza for six months while rebuilding efforts take root and negotiations progress.

“There is a dire need to begin reconstruction in Gaza, and the world must act swiftly to support the Arab plan,” President el-Sisi stressed.

Premier Li echoed these sentiments, reaffirming China’s long-standing position on the Middle East conflict and offering support for stabilisation efforts that respect Palestinian rights and sovereignty.

The visit comes as Beijing continues to expand its diplomatic footprint in the region, positioning itself as a key player in peace mediation and post-conflict reconstruction.

With tensions in Gaza far from over and diplomatic consensus still fragile, Cairo and Beijing’s joint stance signals a renewed push for regional stability, humanitarian recovery, and strategic cooperation in one of the world’s most protracted conflicts.
