Egypt ended their U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign with a 2-0 victory over hosts Morocco in the third-place playoff on Monday.
Mohamed El-Sayed opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, while Ahmed Bashir sealed the win with a superb strike from inside the area deep into stoppage time, securing the bronze medal for Egypt.
Egypt’s third-place finish capped an impressive tournament in which they also secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
The Egyptians began their campaign with a goalless draw against Ethiopia before defeating Tunisia 2-1 in their second Group A match.
They finished runners-up in the group on four points after a 2-1 defeat by Morocco in the final round of group-stage matches, advancing to the quarter-finals.
Egypt then beat Cote d’Ivoire 4-1 before losing to Tanzania in a penalty shootout in the semi-finals.
Morocco, meanwhile, were beaten by Senegal on penalties in the other semi-final.
Egypt will now shift their focus to the 2026 U-17 World Cup, where they have been drawn in Group A alongside hosts Qatar, Greece and Panama.
The tournament will be held in Qatar from 19 November to 13 December, 2026.
